Coach Spotlight: Kelly

Coach Kelly smiling with her dog

1) How have you been involved with Girls on the Run?

A friend of mine helped to start the program at Catonsville Elementary School when her daughter was in third grade. I have been coaching for 14 seasons and absolutely love it!!! I help to plan the lessons, coach the lessons as well as the end of the season party.

2) What drew you to the program to get involved?

I love that these girls get the opportunity to not only make new friends but build their self-esteem and confidence.  I also love running and working out.  Also In enjoy seeing how they grow in all areas is amazing.

3) Why do you think it's so important for girls today to have access to this program?

I think at this time in our society, it is important for the girls to know how important they are.  I want the girls to also understand that being able to have the athletic abilities is not the only important thing. They can run, skip, jump and dance which is also amazing for them.

4) What are some of your hobbies or interests?

Oh, I have tons of hobbies and interests.  I love running working out, hanging out with my friends and family which include my two nieces Carly and Shelby as well as my “dog nephews”  Hank and Gibby.  I enjoy being outside and hiking, and biking.  I love to travel.  If you ask me where I would like to go. I would say anywhere!!  (Well other than somewhere that has snakes)  I am always up for trying new things and seeing what is out there.
