GOTRGC Board Member Spotlight: Robin Metcalfe-Klaw

Robin, Metcalfe-Klaw, Board Member

1. What drew you to get involved with Girls on the Run of the Greater Chesapeake now?

Girls on the Run drew me in by its mission, to empower girls. As as an obstetrician-gynecologist who has dedicated my career to caring for women during some of their most vulnerable physical and emotional moments, this strongly aligns with professional and personal values of mine. The GOTR program fosters a “can-do” mindset in girls,  helping them take fundamental steps to combat the deep-seated underestimation of women that unfortunately still prevails today.  As a board member, I hope to be a part of the necessary change to give girls the confidence they need to excel.

2. Why do you think it's so important for girls today to have access to this program?

GIrls on the Run is unique in that it combines physical, social and emotional development into a curriculum that is proven to build confidence, foster connection and promote health - skills and values that all girls should have access to. As a runner myself, I have gained so much confidence, community and joy from running, and I want girls in our region to feel the same! Having even just one person or team who believes in you can be enough to make or break your ability to dream, and Girls on the Run provides that support for our future female leaders.

3. What are some of your hobbies or interests?

In my free time you can find me running around Baltimore with my two babies and husband in tow, often with a running stroller or bike. We love any outdoor physical adventure but also exploring the culinary and arts scene here. At home I love to cook and read fiction or catch up with friends on long phone calls while walking through my neighborhood.
