1) How have you been involved with Girls on the Run?

My daughter participated in the program this past spring at her elementary school.  I was able to assist her coaches at a couple of the practices and I was her buddy runner for the 5K.

2) What drew you to the program to get involved now?

I was so impressed with the mission of the program as well as the weekly themes and lessons that were taught.  The themes were very much aligned with how I am raising my two daughters.

3) Why do you think it's so important for girls today to have access to this program?

As a woman and a mother of two young daughters, I am acutely aware of all of the negative influences in our society.  I think it is so important for young girls to have access to a program like this which teaches them confidence, positive self-talk, and how to build each other up.  I am also a big believer in physical well-being having a positive impact on mental and emotional well-being.

4) How did the program impact your daughter?

My daughter finds confidence and joy in athletics.  And she loves to try new sports!  This was the first time she attempted a program incorporating running like GOTR.  I think it challenged her, but she was able to use the weekly lessons and the support of her GOTR coaches and teammates to achieve new goals.  The lessons helped to reinforce what we have been teaching her about taking care of your body, your mind, your feelings, and other people.

5) What are some of your hobbies or interests?

I love staying active and being outdoors, whether it's on the water or hiking through the woods.  But my favorite way to relax is reading a book at the beach.  I also love to travel!
