This is an important day for our girls and the 5K will be held rain, snow or shine. Ultimately, we invite you to make the best decision for you and your participant on the morning of the event. Should outside conditions become unsafe, we will notify participants through text, email and social media as soon as possible, and you can also visit our Facebook page for updates.  Due to the availability of UMBC, the event will not be rescheduled.

5K ETIQUETTE

This is a non-competitive event and we encourage all runners to go their “happy pace.”  To keep the course clear for all, we ask slower runners and walkers to stay to the right, leaving room for other runners to pass.

Pets are not allowed at the 5K venue. We have a large number of youth attending our event. For everyone's safety, please leave pets at home. Thank you!

The Girls on the Run 5K would not be possible without the help of amazing volunteers who believe in our mission and show up to support our girls. Whatever your special skills and talents, we have a role for everyone.

We need volunteers for the following activities to ensure our event is a success!

  • Set-up and Tear Down
  • Start & Finish Line Support
  • Bib Pick-Up
  • Course Marshals
  • Running Buddies
  • Water Stations
  • Post Race Refreshments
  • Cheer Stations
  • Happy Hair
  • Bling Your Bib

Contact us  if you are interested in volunteering at our next 5K!

The course for a 5K is 3.1 miles.

As a reminder, this is a fun, celebratory event for our participants and not a competitive race. While our fastest 5K participants will complete the course in 25 minutes, most cross the finish line in 30-50 minutes. We will be sweeping the course at one hour from the starting time to ensure all runners have returned to the starting area. Everyone who participates is encouraged to walk, roll, push, run or skip at their happy pace!

If your daughter is participating in the FALL 2023 program, her registration was included in program registration and she does not need to register for the GOTRGC 5K.

Yes! This is encouraged! This is a great way to accomplish a goal together.

All 5K Buddies and community participants will need to register for the 5K. Please register in the early bird registration for guaranteed t-shirt sizing (10/16-10/31). Standard registration is open through 11/29/2023.

Yes! Family, friends and community members outside of our program can participate in the event, but must register. Please register in the early bird registration for guaranteed t-shirt sizing (10/16 - 10/31). Standard registration is open through 11/29/2023.

Yes. Girls on the Run 5K events are for everyone! All participants can walk, run, push or roll safely and at their own happy pace. Designated parking spots are available.

We expect approximately 1,800 runners on race day. Please give yourself plenty of time to allow for parking in the University of Maryland, Baltimore County lots (1, 2, 3  or 4) and walking to the Celebration village at Erickson Field. ARRIVE EARLY to avoid pre-race parking traffic. GOTRGC girls should plan to meet their team by 8:00 - 8:15 a.m. in their team color zone. This gives them time to warm up and enjoy pre-race activities in our celebration village.

On 5K day we will utilize parking lots 1, 2, 3, and 4 at the University of Maryland,  Baltimore County. There will be signs directing you to the lots near Hilltop Circle and Commons Drive and parking attendants at each lot. Here is a map of the parking

PLEASE BE PATIENT AND ARRIVE EARLY. GIVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME TO PARK AND GET TO ERICKSON FIELD. PLAN TO LEAVE 30 MINUTES BEFORE YOU WERE THINKING ABOUT LEAVING.

Your girl will meet her team based on the color wave she is in on the Celebration Village field (Erickson Field). Color waves will be shared with coaches and teams prior to the 5K.

Absolutely! Every registered participant gets a GOTR race bib and those who signed up during the early bird registration are guaranteed t-shirt sizing for their GOTRGC 5K shirt.

For safety reasons, every participant must wear a 5K bib (provided by the council). Our council ensures every participant has a 5K buddy, and only critical 5K volunteers have access to confidential information.

To ensure every participant crosses the finish line, we continually monitor the courses. Our council has a safety plan in place, which trains staff and volunteers on how to respond during an emergency or incident.

For safety, all furry friends are NOT ALLOWED on campus, on the course or at the event, so please leave all pets at home on 5K day. All pets will be asked to return to the pet owner's vehicle if spotted at the event.

Yes! As this is the highlight of the season, there will be pre-5K fun activities including happy happy hair stations, bling your bib, and more! Of course, we’ll have merchandise for sale, too!

For non-program participants, we will have early bird, standard and late regitration. Early bird regitration (with guaranteed shirt sizing) is $30 from October 16 - October 31, standard registration is $35 through November 29, and late regitsration is $40 during packet pick-up in our Annapolis office on December 1 & 2.
