New Board Member Spotlight, Veronica Pierce

Meet Veronica Pierce, New Girls on the Run of the Greater Chesapeake Board Member.

We are thrilled to introduce Veronica Pierce, new GOTRGC Board Member! We asked Veronica a series of questions about her involvement and thoughts about Girls on The Run. Here's what she had to say:

1. How have you been involved with Girls on the Run?

I have followed along the experiences of a few women I know that have been on the board for Girls on the Run and have been inspired by their journey so was interested in joining the board. I  am incredibly excited to be part of the team and to help however I can!

2. What drew you to the program to get involved now?

Having my daughter was a huge driver to get involved in Girls on the Run. I am aware of the unique challenges that girls face and having a daughter to raise in what seems to be an environment of increased challenges- I wanted to be part of a solution not only for my daughter but for a program accessible to all girls.

3. Why do you think it's so important for girls today to have access to this program?

We know that there’s no end to the challenges facing our girls, so it's pivotal to have access to a program that gives them the tools, outlet, and foundational skills to combat the challenges. The GOTR programming helps girls learn empathy, self-confidence, and social connection, among other skills, which are all tools that will help girls not only when they are enrolled in the program but for life to come.

4. What are some of your hobbies or interests?

Hobbies seem fewer to come by with a 4 year old daughter and second girl on the way. I enjoy spending time with family; my husband, daughter(s) and 2 dogs and especially if I can couple family time with outdoor activities whether that be visits to the park, neighborhood walks, the zoo—anything outdoors.
